In the early 80s, Neville Brody was art director of The Face and City Limits Magazines before setting up a design studio in 1986 with Fwa Richards. In 1994, the design studio changed its name to Research Studios, soon after creating Research Arts & Research Publishing.
The design team has remained a tight working unit throughout, with a high emphasis on creativity. The level of work that Research Studios produces has remained constant and ground breaking while keeping abreast of the ever-changing graphic and technological environment. Research Studios creates solutions in all media from print to electronic communication.

In 1994 Research Arts was formed as a subsidiary studio. Research Arts specialises in film work that has included interactive film sequences and film titles for Hackers, Judge Dredd, Heat, Secret Agent, Mission Impossible, and The Avengers. Our clients include: Paramount Pictures, United Artists, Capital Films, Lion Brand Films, Warner Brothers, Cinergi Pictures Entertainment Incorporated, Turner Network Television and N.B.C.
Research Publishing specialises in the more digital aspects of studio work including creating and publishing their own C.D. ROMs, typefaces and designing Websites for the internet. The fall of 1996 saw the first general release on the independent label Laboratory titles by Giles Rollestone 001 Urban Feedback and Chris Hales 002 Twelve. Further titles to be produced are David Crow & Cosmontage.
