The Awards
A Cape Town-based initiative, the Construction New Media Awards aims to celebrate and elevate the status of new media design by honouring and accrediting those designers, writers, programmers and thinkers who produce challenging, imaginative interactive work, both on a creative and a functional platform.
There may be no fortune in winning a Construction New Media Award, but fame comes in the form of the coveted Grand Prix. It is awarded across all four categories, including online, offline, motion graphics and innovation.
The Design Indaba holds a special interest in the development of young designers. We offer young creatives an opportunity to be exposed to and interact with an international contingent of designers who are committed to sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience.
More so, to celebrate CNMA's young talent, we are introducing a prize for the overall best student: the Top Student Award. It's a trip to the UK to meet and work with a top designer at their studio.
Construction Awards 2001-2008
The inaugural event was launched in conjunction with the fourth international Design Indaba in March 2001. It was judged by some of the world's most exciting and most awarded designers, and supported by an overwhelming number of South African digital media design agencies.
The second Construction New Media Awards, held the in March 2002 with the fifth Design Indaba, paved the way in establishing these awards as the premier new media awards in the country. Again it was judged by leaders in their field, their feedback being that they would have been proud to have produced the winning entries themselves.
Note that in 2008 the categories have been refined to comprise online, offline, motion graphics and innovation.
Thank you for all your support and good luck with this year's entries.
